The Value of Outdoor Play
The Sky Is the Limit – Literally!
Outdoor play gives children the opportunity to be active and use their imagination. Summertime is a perfect time for children to spend quality time outdoors. Think back to your childhood and the many hours you spent digging in the dirt, collecting outdoor treasures, and making up your own outdoor games. With all the fun to be had indoors, sometimes we forget how important – and fun! – it is for children to play outdoors.Exploring Trees Inside and Outside
Visit Imagine It! to experience our Exploring Trees Inside and Out exhibit and learn about nature during our interactive daily programming led by the Imaginators. Then, take a walk across the street and enjoy the outdoors at Centennial Olympic Park. We even have an outdoor scavenger hunt worksheet you can pick up at the Museum that will help your kids identify different tree species that live in the park. Complete the hunt and come back to the Museum to receive your pin of recognition.Picnic in the Park
Visiting a local park is a great way to experience the great outdoors as a family. Pack a picnic, take a nature walk, or make up your own outdoor scavenger hunt. There are six state parks within about an hour drive of Atlanta: Sweetwater Creek, Pickett’s Mill Battlefield, Etowah Indian Mounds, Red Top Mountain, Fort Yargo and Panola Mountain. They offer a wide variety of outdoor activities that will help your children develop a love for the outdoors. For more information about outdoor play:
