Special Guest: Rolling Stone Chuck Leavell (featured)
Thank you to Chuck Leavell for sharing his beautiful book and making it such a special day!
About Chuck Leavell
Leavell has been pleasing the ears of music fans for more than 30 years now. His piano and keyboard work has been heard on the works of Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, George Harrison, The Allman Brothers Band, The Indigo Girls, Blues Traveler, Train, Montgomery-Gentry, Lee Ann Womack and many, many more. In addition to being a well established pianist/artist in the music industry, Leavell is also a published author, tree farmer, and keeps busy with his advocacy work on behalf of the environment.
Recognized as a talented and respected musician, Chuck Leavell's accomplishments as a conservationist and tree farmer are equally impressive. After studying forestry by correspondence and doing much of his homework while riding a tour bus with the Fabulous Thunderbirds in the mid '80s, Leavell and wife Rose Lane White Leavell turned her family's plantation near Macon, GA into what has become a textbook tree farm. At Charlane Plantation, Leavell trades his rock 'n roll garb for jeans and boots and zealously becomes a conservationist. In rural Georgia, you can find Leavell hugging a tree and declaring he's fortunate to have three real passions in his life: "My family, my trees and my music."
About the Book
Children’s book author by day, rock and roller for the Rolling Stones by night, Chuck Leavell brings his unique interests and passions in one place in his children’s book, "The Tree Farmer," which he coauthored with Nicholas Cravotta.
"The Tree Farmer" takes young readers on a magical journey through the forest, in a tale of the gifts of trees and our responsibility to care for trees, generation to generation. Written for children ages 5-8 to read and share with parents, this beautifully illustrated and poetic story aims to educate children about the environment and each of our roles as environmental stewards. In the book, a grandson confronts his grandfather, a tree farmer, about how he can grow trees with so much love and care, only to cut them down. But as they walk together through the trees, they discover the majesty of the forest and enjoy the life journey of each tree.
