General FAQs

Adult to Child Ratio
The Museum requires that you have at least one adult for every five children.

Target Free Second Tuesday is a special opportunity for the community to bring their children to The Children’s Museum of Atlanta and experience the Museum for free.  Free admission is made possible through the generous support of Target.  Every second Tuesday of the Month, visitors who may not have the opportunity to experience the Museum or want to try the Museum free of charge are able to do so through our partnership with Target.

Ticket holders will have access to vending machines inside the Museum, or if you prefer, you may bring your own bag lunch.  Tables are available on a first come basis.

Museum Capacity
Capacity is the total number of people legally allowed in the building. This number varies with each traveling exhibit.

Museum Members
During Target Free Second Tuesday, all visitors must wait in line to gain access to the Museum.  Members may enter the Museum up until 12:55 PM with their valid membership card and photo ID. Any additional guests not listed on membership entering the Museum prior to 1:00 PM will need to pay admission, or they can choose to wait in line.  Members arriving after 12:55 pm will need to wait in line.

On Target Free Second Tuesday, once you exit through security your ticket will no longer be valid and you may not re-enter the Museum.  To re-enter you will need to stand in line to obtain new tickets.

Recommended Ages
Our exhibits are developed with children 8 years and younger in mind.

Guests waiting in line are not permitted into the Museum until they have been issued a ticket.  There are restrooms located a short distance from the Museum in between The Georgia Aquarium and The World of Coke.

Target Free Second Tuesday is held on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 1 PM.

Security Policy
Your family's safety and security are our highest priorities. Adults must be accompanied by a child on the exhibit floor, and children must be accompanied by an adult on the exhibit floor. Security cameras, electronic access controls, and security personnel are in place at all times. Visitor Services staff are always here to assist you. No security can take the place of adult supervision. Remember to have fun with and supervise your children.

Tickets are distributed starting at 1:00 PM and handed out to those visitors waiting in line until the Museum reaches capacity. Line forms on the Baker Street sidewalk. If capacity has been reached, visitors still waiting in line will be admitted once capacity opens up in the Museum and families exit the building.

Waiting in Line
Line forms outside the museum regardless of weather conditions. If you decide to arrive early, your entire party must also wait in line.  We ask that you not hold spots for others.  Tickets are only distributed to complete parties.  If your entire group is not present, tickets will not be issued.

During hot weather, we recommend you bring an umbrella and plenty of liquids. During winter months, be sure to dress in layers. We also recommend bringing games, coloring books or other activities to help pass the time while waiting in line. Bring snacks or a bag lunch to eat while waiting in line.

Anyone with health issues should take into consideration the weather and possible wait times before coming on Target Free Second Tuesday.  Guests are not permitted inside the building until they have been issued their tickets.

Wait Time
Wait time varies by time of year, and whether or not Target Free Second Tuesday falls on a school holiday. The line outside the Museum typically starts forming around 11:00 AM. During summer months, the line may begin forming as early as 9:00 AM. Wait times can be up to 2-4 hours during busier months. This is an only an estimate and wait times may be shorter or longer.
